Brad Williams, VP of corporate communications at Yahoo, said it’s too soon to know how the communications team at Yahoo will be affected by upcoming layoffs. Earlier this week, the company
reported a 64% drop in net income and confirmed that at least 1,430 employees will be losing their jobs in 2008.
“We haven’t made any decisions yet about which areas across the company are going to be impacted,” Williams told
PRWeek. “At a corporate level we haven’t communicated any decisions about where those cost-reductions will be made. But certainly corporate communications is a part of the company and therefore we’re participating in the top-to-bottom business review that’s going on.”
Williams went on to say it would seem “frivolous” to talk about Yahoo’s PR team when the company itself is amid such troubles. “It’s like interviewing a fireman during a fire,” he added.
Another member of Yahoo's communications team told
PRWeek via e-mail, "We haven't received any details. We've only heard what everyone else heard on earnings yesterday.”
