There was a time when plenty of kids wanted to be like then-actor Arnold Schwarzenegger's fictional persona and become a
cyborg robot from the future. But just as many might have shared the California Governor's love of riding around in a
big ol' Hummer. These days, Gov. Schwarzenegger has moved on to "greener"
options, and the Hummer has much less consumer appeal. The General Motors post-bankruptcy
reinvention includes selling off the brand.
Now it
appearsthe deal with the lone bidder for the Hummer brand, Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery, has hit snags and may not happen. With pressure to turn the company around as quickly as possible and, according to this
Time article, a 64% drop in Hummer sales, GM may be faced with more problems. Still, there are
plans to open a new Michigan headquarters once the sale is complete.
