While Republicans quibble over who's the conservativest of all, President Obama's reelection campaign raised $130 million last year, including $42 million in the last three months. Contributions came from 1.3 million people in 2011, the campaign reported this week. Combined with the DNC's efforts, the campaign's 2011 warchest totals around $250, clearly outweighing the fundraising efforts of any of the Republican challengers.

Obama supporters, though, worry that pro-Republican super pacs will pose a serious threat in terms of dollars raised once the GOP nominee is confirmed. Moreover, the campaign is having to fend off over-optimistic fundraising predictions that have floated the idea that Obama's reelection efforts could exceed the nearly $800 million raised for the 2008 campaign by hitting $1 billion. While many believe that seems unlikely, the president's campaign manager Jim Messina sought to refute any question on that matter: "They're completely wrong," he said in a campaign video (below) where he also released the 2011 and fourth quarter fundraising figures. He deplored listeners to ignore the hype and fork over their donations large and small:
