Right now
Twitter is amid possibly its biggest crisis ever. If you haven't heard, a hacker
has stolen sensitive data that TechCrunch
has now obtained. This has erupted a gaggle of Twitter users debating the ethics of TechCrunch posting these documents, some of which it plans to publish throughout the day.
Michael Arrington
defended his decision with the quote,
“News is what somebody somewhere wants to suppress; all the rest is advertising.” So far, he's started with a
"softball" leak about plans for a Twitter reality show. But Silicon Alley Insider has already
published slides revealing Twitter's growth strategy.
Meanwhile, Twitter is handling the entire firestorm still reportedly without a PR agency. Will this crisis finally change all of that? We're working on an analysis about this right now. If you have some thoughts, send me an e-mail at
