If there's one thing that every marketer knows, it's don't mess with the moms. One PR pro, Democrat strategist, and commentator did just that last night. Hilary Rosen, an MD with Washington public affairs shop SKDKnickerbocker, was explaining to CNN's Anderson Cooper why she doesn't believe Ann Romney can help her husband connect with American women when she said: "His wife has actually never worked a day in her life."
Cue the angry, under-appreciated stay-at-home moms, their families, the right-wing, and plenty of others who found the tone divisive and condescending. Twitter was lively with debate.
Rosen, a mom herself, hasn't walked back her comments, even as President Obama's campaign sought to distance itself from her remarks. She did apologize for her poor word choice, but sought instead, smartly I think, to clarify what she meant.
