SAN FRANCISCO: Twitter plans to hire a government liaison in Washington and add two to three communications positions by the end of 2010.

The company's communications team is led by Sean Garrett, who joined Twitter as its first VP of communications in March.

Garrett said the government liaison position is not a traditional public affairs role but will be used to educate policymakers, political organizations, and government officials about Twitter. The position is posted to Twitter's website.
