Recently, word began spreading through the blogosphere that Sony music CDs now contained Digital Rights Management (DRM) software that embeds itself on a user's computer and exposes it to viruses.

As bloggers fanned the flames, the story hit mainstream media that, in its efforts to protect its intellectual property, Sony had violated its customers' rights. The story appears to have peaked with Microsoft adding the software to its malicious code list and Sony recalling the CDs on November 15.
