NEW YORK: The New York Public Library (NYPL's) avoided steep city budget cuts that could have cost the library system $28 million and reduced the system's six-day-per-week service with help from a recent advocacy campaign.

On June 15, New York's Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Council Speaker Christine Quinn announced that six-day library service would be maintained and financial cuts were reduced to $5 million.
