DETROIT: General Motors' PR team made internal communications a priority before and during the United Auto Workers two-day strike that ended last week, limiting external outreach as the two sides reached a decision.

Tony Cervone, VP, communications for GM North America, said his team set up face-to-face discussions with staffers several months ago. Those meetings, he added, helped produce the relatively civil nature that accompanied the strike.
