Americans watched more than 25 billion videos in August, a record number, comScore data
shows. Of those, more than 10 billion were viewed via Google, namely YouTube – that’s 40% of all videos – putting it
far aheadof other contenders. In terms of the number of videos viewed, Microsoft’s sites came in second with 547 million (2.2%), followed by Viacom Digital and Hulu.
In total, more than 161 million viewers watched an average of 157 videos each in August, comScore found.
The average length of time for online video was 3.7 minutes.
Meanwhile, new figures from Nielsen showed that while the number of people viewing video via their cell phones continued to grow (a whopping 70% over last year), it still represents a relatively small percentage of the overall population: 7% of all US mobile subscribers,
