Continuing its busy week, Yahoo has hired John Devine, a former executive at consulting firm McKinsey, as SVP of global operations. He will report to COO Henrique De Castro, who is also a McKinsey veteran.

The news comes on top of Yahoo buying blogging platform Tumblr for $1.1 billion. Yahoo said in its official announcement on Monday that it won't "screw it up" for Tumblr users, keeping the service independent and letting founder David Karp continue to run the company.

On a much smaller scale, Yahoo also bought PlayerScale, a software infrastructure company.
