Google is reportedly weeks away from closing its Chinese search engine, according to insiders close to the situation. The move follows tensions between the two sides regarding China's Internet censorship laws. One inside source said the search engine provider is likely to take action to remove its services from China's servers within weeks, a fact Chinese authorities backed up Friday on local news sites. Chinese authorities warned some of Google's Web partners to prepare advertising plans in case the company fails to comply with the censorhip rules.

Also in the news:

  • Cable providers like Comcast and Cablevision lost an appeal against a sharing rule.
  • Social networking site Classmates.com is hit with a privacy suit after settling a previous privacy problem.
  • An ad campaign focuses on swaying Democrat vote on health care bill.
