News Corp. Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch told the Financial Times this week that his company will charge for access to “all our news Web sites.” He upped the ante from a May statement that the company would test an online payment model on one newspaper’s portal.

“If successful, we’ll be followed by all media,” the FT quoted him as saying.

Lionel Barber, FT editor, predicted in July that almost all news organizations will charge for content in the next 12 months. The Wall Street Journal and New York Times have also revealed details on possible payment systems.

PRWeek gated its online content three months ago.
