NEW YORK: MSLGroup is letting go 15 people in its New York office as a result of a review of its structure set up to respond to the changing needs of the PR business.
The Publicis agency employs about 180 people in New York: that number will fall to 165 after the realignment. The 8 per cent reduction in staff numbers comes from areas that are more project-based, such as graphic design, and involves account and administrative staff.
Renee Wilson, president of MSLGroup North America, said: "Our actions today were part of a realignment of our business to meet the evolving needs in the marketplace. We thank those leaving us for their service and contributions to our agency and we wish them the very best as they transition their careers.”
Wilson told PRWeek she was encouraged by the business pipeline and that the agency is pitching for more new business than ever.
“To meet the areas of the business which are growing and where we have need, we are continuing to redeploy existing talent wherever possible and recruit talent with the necessary skills required by our clients today,” she added.
Separately, it was announced today that Heineken has consolidated its PR agency roster and moved work on its flagship Heineken and Heineken Light brands, and Amstel Light, into Edelman from MSLGroup, which had served as AOR for the beer brands since 2006.
"The staffing realignment has nothing to do with today's news on Heineken," said Wilson.
