GlaxoSmithKline is looking to bolster its consumer healthcare communications staff, following a three-month department review by Leslie McGibbon, VP of global communications and consumer healthcare. He joined the company last year after a stint at InterContinental Hotels Group.
Up to 20 in-house positions will be created for the division, with some of the new staff specializing in brand PR, Malesia Dunn, director of communications for GSK Consumer Healthcare North America, told PRWeek. The drug company also plans to recruit staff with multimedia skills to create content on the company's intranet. The positions will be split between the UK and US.
The increase in staff isn't the only change in the works. “As well as bringing on new roles and new people, we'll be looking at what we do and how we do it. That review will include agency support,” Dunn said.
She added that there is no timetable for when this agency review could occur. GolinHarris supports GSK's oral care and smoking cessation products, while Edelman promotes its Alli weight-loss product.
