PR professionals planning to pitch the
redesigned Newsweek should be armed with fresh ideas, according to one of the magazine's editors.
"There’s been a certain amount of speculation that we would become
The New Republic or
The Economist,"
Mark Miller, assistant managing editor and chief of correspondents, said at a panel yesterday at
Bulldog Reporter’s Media 2009 Summit.
He added that much of
Newsweek’s content will be "idea-driven," meaning the outlet will take a different perspective than other news sources – although not necessarily a partisan one.
"The point is not to be ideologically driven, but to have a point of view," Miller said.
