The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) launched a new tool, called the Environmental Public Health Tracking Network, this week to track, aggregate, and monitor environmental-related health issues in 16 states.

The network compares information like air quality and drinking water with local disease data for chronic conditions like asthma, cancer, childhood lead poisoning, and heart disease that researchers and the public can access online.

The CDC said it hopes to expand the program to all 50 states as a way to prevent chronic diseases.
