The family of the late infomercial pitchman Billy Mays, who
passed away on June 28, has given permission for his work to continue on.
"While the mourning and healing process will continue for the family, they have graciously given permission for all the people, inventors, companies and corporations to continue using his likeness on television and packaging pursuant to and honoring all existing agreements that he had in place," said Roger Pliakas, the attorney for Billy Mays and Mays Promotions Inc., in a
statement.
The Discovery Channel is also set to air a
special tonight called
Pitchman: A Tribute to Billy Mays. Mays starred, alongside Anthony Sullivan, in the series
Pitchman, but the fate of the show is still undecided. Most of Mays' commercials were pulled off the air after his sudden death, but as they
make their
wayback to TV, will it be a touching homage to his work? Or is it just weird to watch as a recent deceased salesperson tries to sell you OxiClean?
