NEW YORK: TIAA-CREF hired Connie Weaver as EVP and chief marketing and communications officer, reporting to Roger Ferguson, CEO of the financial services company.

Weaver, currently SVP of marketing and communications at The Hartford Financial Services Group, starts her position April 26. Her responsibilities will include corporate communications, digital strategy marketing, brand management, advertising, and market research and analytics. She will oversee a combined team of 220 people.

Weaver said the position is “one that really pulls together all of the key areas of marketing into one role and also includes the communications function.”

“When I had the opportunity to meet Roger Ferguson and learn about the vision and the plan for TIAA-CREF and where they wanted to take the company, it was really the perfect job coupled with the things I really wanted to do,” she added.

She will replace Steve Goldstein, EVP of public affairs and marketing and chief communications officer since 2003. Goldstein plans to step down June 30 to take time to invest in country music brands, although he said he planned to return to corporate communications after a break.

In her career, Weaver served as EVP and CMO at BearingPoint and EVP of marketing and communications at AT&T. She joined The Hartford in early 2008.

The Hartford is currently searching for a replacement, according to a company spokesperson.
