Jonathan Fishman, senior director at mtvU Digital, started using Skild in November 2012 for the College Television Awards competition.
 
How do you use it?
My team logs on to the administrative section, which is where we set up the College Television Awards competition dates, submission categories, design elements, and more.

Skild has made it easy to enter all contest information and set it up appropriately. There is a lot of drag and drop elements and it's easy to make changes or updates.

Competition entrants register for an account on our contest main page, log on, and submit their entry.  
Skild has a tech support email address we would use if there is a problem, but we haven't had any problems since the contest has been live. We had some questions when we were setting it up, but they were not really problems, and our account rep helped us through those.

How does it serve your business needs?
The College Television Awards competition is owned by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation. It's their contest, but we partner on it each year and facilitate the whole process. The submission period started at the end of November 2012 and runs until the end of January 2013. There are a couple of rounds of judging, and then winners are honored at a gala in Los Angeles in the spring.
 
In years past, we used one of our internal sites to facilitate the contest. Over time that required too much maintenance so we started talking to the people at Skild. We really liked the platform, it seemed tailor-made for our needs, and it provides features we did not have before.
 
As opposed to just being a contest-entry machine, Skild allows for multiple rounds of judging and gives us customization ability. We're able to manage it with very few resources on our end, which is great because my team is small. It's mainly one person doing the lion's share of the work in managing the competition process.
 
Functionally, the contest has been running great. Some of us were out over the holidays and we were a little worried that something was not going to work right and no one would be at the wheel, but everything was fine. It's been really smooth. We've gotten several submissions so far, and I think it's going to be a successful submission period.
 
How does it integrate with your existing infrastructure from an IT standpoint?
It's all Web-based. Even though Skild handles hosting, we are able to configure the URL and site design so users still feel like they're on mtvU. It's really seamless from the user perspective.
 
What are the main benefits?
It is a great, feature-rich product that meets our needs.
 
I can easily generate reports to determine the number of submissions and if any pieces of information are missing. It is also easy to generate all the information we need to give to the foundation and easy to customize the look and feel of the contest site to match our branding.
 
Our account rep has been really great to work with – very accessible and helpful.
 
What are the main drawbacks?
So far, none.
 
What would you like to see improved/added?
We are able to customize certain parts of the contest site, but we would like to have more customization ability in terms of either adding or removing certain elements on the page. For example, we would like to be able to remove a module or tab that may not be relevant to our competition. I would also like the ability to turn certain elements on and off – some of that ability already exists, it's just not 100%.
 
We also have ideas about how to make reports a little bit more customized – such as being able to generate them per category for our competition.  
 
From what we understand, the product is continually improving over time. We've talked with our account rep about different ideas we've had along the way, and some of them might be incorporated in upcoming releases.
