Risi promoted to North American role at Ogilvy PR

Ogilvy Public Relations has promoted Jennifer Risi, EVP of the Media Influence group and director of content creation, to serve as MD of Ogilvy Media Influence and head of North American media relations.

NEW YORK: Ogilvy Public Relations has promoted Jennifer Risi, EVP of the Media Influence group and director of content creation, to serve as MD of Ogilvy Media Influence and head of North American media relations.

Starting in the newly created role immediately, Risi is reporting to Robert Mathias, Ogilvy PR's North America CEO. She has worked at the agency since 2011, previously serving as EVP at Weber Shandwick.

Since Risi will remain in the New York office, she will continue overseeing the Media Influence group there.

Rachel Caggiano, who was promoted to the newly created role of EVP and North America head of content earlier this month from SVP of Social@Ogilvy, has taken over Risi's former responsibilities as content creation director.

Risi's main tasks include enhancing the agency's media relations efforts and strengthening and leveraging its resources for clients both locally and nationally. She will also provide global counsel to some of the WPP Group agency's largest clients.

“[Risi] is smart, aggressive, and strategic, and in modern-day media, you need to be all three,” said Mathias.

She will also work with Ogilvy & Mather's marketing team on media, content, and business-development opportunities.

“The important thing about [Risi's] elevation is that we believe firmly in the importance of traditional media relations in today's communications ecosystem,” explained Mathias.

He added that figuring out how traditional media interplays with social and content “is what really will make a difference on behalf of our clients.”

With Risi at the helm for media relations in North America and Caggiano overseeing content, Ogilvy is searching for a head of social media, said Mathias.

Since joining Ogilvy in 2011, Risi has helped to build the firm's media relations expertise and its New York-based Media Influence team.

Last year, Risi began growing the Media Influence team in North America, tapping agency staffers across regions to create a connected community to collaborate on media relations efforts.

Before Ogilvy, Risi worked at Weber Shandwick for 12 years, most recently serving as EVP and co-founder of the Global Strategic Media Practice. While at Weber, she led a number of large accounts, such as Siemens, MAC AIDS Fund, and Fresh Direct. She also created Voiceboxx, the firm's service for senior management visibility and positioning.
