WASHINGTON: Porter Novelli has hired Brian Frederick as VP in its public affairs practice.

He most recently worked as executive director at the Sports Fans Coalition. In that role, he briefed the White House, FCC commissioners, and various elected officials on the group's work, Porter said in a statement.

Previously, he was deputy editorial and research director for Media Matters for America, where he led a team of researchers and editors and was a spokesperson on radio interviews. Frederick also worked on former Sen. John Edwards' (D-NC) most recent presidential campaign.

In December, Porter hired Paul George as global director of health. Also that month, Karen van Bergen was promoted to CEO from senior partner and MD of its New York office.
