Retail chain Lowe's could face a boycott after its decision to pull advertising from TLC reality series All-American Muslim.

Groups that support Muslim-Americans have begun to circulate petitions urging Lowe's to apologize and encouraging consumers to boycott the chain after it nixed ads on the reality series. The show follows the lives of five Muslim-American families in Dearborn, MI.

The retailer's pullout was reportedly in response to complaints from the Florida Family Association, which claims the series is “propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values.” Meanwhile, Lowe's tweeted on Friday that its decision to pull the ads was not “based solely on the complaints or emails of any one group.”

Public figures such as Russell Simmons and Mia Farrow are calling for boycotts of Lowe's. Consumers are also voicing their opinions on the matter on Twitter.

Lowe's posted a statement on Facebook this weekend saying: “It appears that we managed to step into a hotly contested debate with strong views from virtually every angle and perspective – social, political, and otherwise - and we've managed to make some people very unhappy. We are sincerely sorry. We have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, across our workforce and our customers, and we're proud of that longstanding commitment."

Representatives for Lowe's did not immediately return requests for comment.
