ATLANTA: Alicia Thompson, former VP of communications at fast-food chain Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, has joined Edelman's consumer team in Atlanta as SVP.
Thompson, who began working at the firm last month, is reporting to Scott Morris, consumer group head in Edelman's Atlanta office. She left Popeyes, where she worked for more than nine years, at the end of June.
Popeyes put its consumer PR agency RFP on hold this summer after Thompson left the company. It said at the time that it would resume the search after it replaced her.
Thompson's responsibilities include supporting the consumer brand teams and focusing on new business development.
She said her goal is to “help grow existing accounts and help [Edelman's office in] Atlanta grow in terms of new business in food and beverage and broader consumer accounts.”
Thompson added that she decided to work at Edelman because of its entrepreneurial culture and talent.
She also worked with Edelman on crisis issues at Popeyes in the past, so she said she was familiar with the firm and its capabilities. At the fast-food chain, Thompson developed and led all internal and external communications strategies.
Prior to Popeyes, she served as corporate communications manager at BellSouth and PR manager at Coca-Cola. She also held roles at Cohn & Wolfe and Great American Cookies.
