CHICAGO: Edelman parent company DJE Holdings has named Ruth Edelman deputy chairman.

Ruth, the widow of Edelman founder Daniel J. Edelman, will hold an advisory role at DJE Holdings, providing counsel to the company and president and CEO Richard Edelman. She will also host agency events. Ruth Edelman currently serves as a member of DJE Holdings' board of directors.

Edelman will appoint a new chairman of DJE Holdings from outside the company in coming months, it said in a statement. The appointee will be a non-executive chairman and serve in an advisory role only, the agency said.

Daniel J. Edelman died last month at age 92 of heart failure. He founded the eponymous agency in 1952 in Chicago and remained its chairman late into his life.
