Allen to step down as Ogilvy consumer MD

NEW YORK: Samantha Allen, MD of Ogilvy PR's global consumer marketing practice, will leave the agency at the end of the week.

NEW YORK: Samantha Allen, MD of Ogilvy PR's global consumer marketing practice, will leave the agency at the end of the week. She has worked at the firm for more than nine years.

“I believe that this role is not the right fit for me, and I'm looking to find an opportunity that's a better fit for my talents, interests, and strengths,” she said. “I think what I'm looking for is a more entrepreneurial path.”

In her time at the agency, Allen supported BP's 2012 London Olympic Games sponsorship and worked with Guinness, which selected Ogilvy's London and Dublin offices as its global AOR in May. She was named MD of the global consumer marketing practice last July.

Allen said she helped the US offices grow and develop a connected consumer community. She said she “set up Australia's largest consumer business within the Ogilvy world” in 2003.

Prior to relocating to New York last July, Allen served as an executive director at Ogilvy and managing director at Pulse Communications, which she founded.

Allen said she has no immediate future plans, but that her next role must have a creative element.

Ogilvy has seen high-level executive departures in the past year, as well as account losses such as Slimfast and Bertolli. Last fall, Bill Reihl, former EVP of consumer for North America, left the agency, followed by Denise Vitola, former SVP in Ogilvy's consumer marketing group in December. A month later, Lauren Mundell, former SVP in the firm's consumer group, also left.

However, Allen said the agency is holding strong.

“I think that the potential for Ogilvy is still as wonderful and exciting as it's always been,” she said. “All agencies go through ups and downs, and I don't think Ogilvy is any different, but I know Ogilvy is having one of its strongest years.”

“We wish her the very best,” said Rachel Ufer, VP of business development and external relations at Ogilvy.
