For most of the 135 million Americans who describe themselves as musicians, a year without an invitation to the MTV Video Music Awards is another chance to fire up the bong, break out the bongos, and watch the spectacle on TV while commenting on how all of the award winners are sellouts. But every once in a while, a snubbed artist shows a bit of flair.
