The suspense surrounding
the Microsoft-Yahoo acquisition intensified as conflicting reports set the stage
for either a hostile takeover or a disappointing washout. According to
Bloomberg
News, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer told reporters that he's ready to initiate
a hostile takeover as soon as this weekend. "We are offering a lot of money.
If Yahoo's shareholders like it, that's great. We are prepared to go forward
without a merger," Ballmer said at conference in Italy. Yet the
Wall
Street Journal reports that despite Ballmer's public bravado to go forward
with the acquisition, growing skepticism among Microsoft workers and
executives could thwart even a hostile takeover.
