The Los Angeles Times announced it will eliminate 150 jobs in its newsroom and decrease the number of pages it publishes by 15 percent. The cuts far exceed predictions made by executives just a few months ago, The New York Times reports. In February, publisher David Hiller said he expected only 40 to 50 job cuts.

The cuts will affect both the print and web sections of the editorial staff, and the paper will join the two units into a unified staff, operating under the same budget.
