PRWeekJobs.com Q&A

Q. What happened?
A.
During an upgrade to the PRWeekJobs.com Web site by an outside contractor, Adicio, Inc., a technical error resulted in e-mails containing registrants' usernames and login passwords erroneously being sent to other registrants in the PRWeekJobs.com database. In some cases hundreds of emails flooded inboxes of numerous registrants.

Q. How many people have been affected?
A. We believe approximately 2,500 registrants to PRWeekJobs.com may have been affected.

Q: I was one of the affected users of the PRWeekjobs.com site. How do I use the PRWeekjobs.com site again?
A:
In order to protect your information, we have disabled your user name and password. The quickest and most secure option is for you to re-register with PRWeekJobs.com by going to this link. You will not be able to use the e-mail address that you were previously registered under, and you will need to reset your preferences.

If you wish to use the same e-mail address to access the PRWeekJobs.com site, please e-mail julia.hood@prweek.com, and we will reinstate your user name and password. It might take between 24-48 hours to reactivate your account, Once it is completed, you should log on and change your password.

Q. Who is Adicio?
A. Adicio develops interactive classified advertising software solutions for the careers, motors and real estate markets, which serve the Internet's leading media companies and web portals. PRWeek is working with Adicio on a service for PRWeekJobs.com

Q. Is Adicio taking responsibility for this? Will PRWeek continue working with the company?
A. Adicio has accepted responsibility for the technical issue that caused this email problem. We continue to work with Adicio at the present time, and take very seriously the need to ensure PRWeekJobs.com users and our other stakeholders have faith that their data is protected going forward.

Q. I'm a subscriber of PRWeek magazine, does this mean my subscriber data was compromised?
A. No. This incident should not be confused with the dissemination of subscriber data. All subscriber data is secure.

Q. Is there any sensitive information that may be accessed using registrants' usernames and login passwords, e.g., credit card information, social security numbers or other personal data?
A. No, absolutely not. Credit card information, social security numbers, and other highly sensitive information is not found on the PRWeekJobs Web site. This is not a subscriber database and therefore personal information sharing is minimized.

Q. Is there anything I should do to help ensure that no more emails arrive in my mailbox?
A. We have alerted ISPs around the country to the issue. You should also speak with your company's IT support to make them aware of the issue.

Q. Do end users need to proactively notify their ISP as well?
A. We have posted some specific direction on how to contact your ISP and ensure this situation is quelled moving forward. We have also posted detailed directions for some e-mail services on both our Website and via e-mail communication with the users.

Q. Are you certain the issue won't occur again?
A. We believe the steps we're taking to protect customer login data will substantially diminish the chances of a future incident.
