NEW YORK: NASDAQ renamed its news distribution service as GlobeNewswire with an awareness effort that began at the opening bell August 22. Its former name was PrimeNewswire.

The company says the transition reflects the international scope of the newswire, and NASDAQ's global nature. It reaches 23 countries on six continents in 80 languages.

“The name change is a recognition of the global distribution that has been in place,” said Jeff Stacey, senior MD at NASDAQ OMX.

The rebranding was announced publicly at the opening bell ceremony and GlobeNewswire clients were alerted a few days prior. Opening and closing bell ceremonies were fed live to various stations.

GlobeNewswire will continue to build awareness with outreach to PR and IR organizations on the local, regional, and national levels, Stacey added.
